Snetterton hosted Rounds 7 and 8 of Trackday Trophy, with a double-header at the Norfolk circuit!
Qualifying
It was David Zakrzewski who secured overall pole position in the #41 Dubshack Performance BMW, setting a benchmark time of 2:10.341. Jordan Honeybone followed in second place behind the wheel of the #44 Apple Race Team Clio, while the #245 Harts Racing entry claimed third overall, and pole position in Class C. In Class D, Lee Taylor was quickest in the #95 Graves Motorsport Mazda MX-5 Mk3.
Race 1
From the start Zakrzewski led into Turn 1 ahead of Honeybone and Mullarkey, with Hart heading the Class C runners ahead of DMA Motorsport’s #68 David Shead. Tommy Valentine’s #155 Burton Power Fiesta was also in contention but under pressure by a swarm of MX-5s.
Class D saw an early battle between Taylor, Jack Stewart and Jack Hodges, with James Fry. Stewart managed to break away from the group, closing in on the Class C Valentine ahead before sneaking past the more powerful Fiesta.
As the race entered the pitstop window, Aaron Mullarkey’s #25 FJ Racing Honda Civic took the lead, amongst a flurry of lead changes, which also saw Chris Stone in the #60 Boreham Motorsport MX-5 take the overall lead from Class D.
As the dust settled from the pit stop window, Zakrzewski reclaimed the lead and despite coming under pressure from the chasing Honeybone, held on to take the win, finishing just 1.595 seconds ahead of Honeybone as the flag dropped. Mullarkey completed the overall podium, also taking third in Class B.
Hart Racing converted class pole into Class C victory, ahead of Valentine in the #155 Fiesta, while Stuart Smith’s #26 FJ Racing Civic completed the podium.
In Class D, Jack Stewart took the win, ahead of Lee Taylor and James Fry in the #48 Rosbif Racing MX-5, with the pair unable to close the gap in a tight class battle.
Race 2
For the final race of the day, Trackday Trophy experienced a rare reverse grid, with the top 10 qualifiers starting in reverse order!
When the lights went out, Valentine led Smith #26 into the first corner, with Lee Taylor hot on their heels after a good start. Taylor wasted no time, passing Smith into the Wilson hairpin on the opening lap before taking the lead from Valentine into Agostini two turns later to propel his MX-5 into the lead. However, it wasn't long before Mullarkey in the Honda Civic moved into the lead though, with Zakrzewski also managing to find a way past.
Stewart and Valentine enjoyed a close game of cat and mouse, until Valentine ran wide allowing the MX-5s of Taylor, Stewart and Jack Hodges past. This then sparked a three-way MX-5 battle for the Class D lead.
As the race progressed, Stewart, Taylor and Hodges were unable to hold off the faster Class C machinery of Valentine and then Hart. Hart also making his way past Valentine to climb to second on the road.
With the pitstop window open, Hart Racing inherited the race lead from Zakrzewski ahead of Taylor and Stewart. The two MX-5s swapping positions, until Stewart ultimately emerged as the faster of the Class D pair.
At the chequered flag, Zakrzewski secured a clean sweep taking both victories at the Snetterton double header. Hart Racing followed in second overall, and first in Class C, while Stewart claimed third overall and took Class D win having recovered from being leapfrogged by Taylor during the pitstops.
The season finale is next, as we head to Brands Hatch on Saturday 14th November for even more multi-class racing action!
