Trackday Trophy’s fifteenth year got underway at Snetterton on Saturday 15 March, with competitors looking to earn the first trophies of the season.
A bumper grid, comprised of three classes of production and production-based racers, took on the technically demanding 300 circuit configuration in an enthralling 45-minute pit stop race.
Qualifying
The Lotus Elise of John LaMaster and Adriano Medeiros proved quick out of the blocks in the morning’s qualifying session. The duo set the original benchmark, but faced early competition from Wolf Motorsport’s brother pairing of Luke and Chris Reade.
Two quick laps from LaMaster/Medeiros returned the pair to the top of the timing sheets, with their terrific time of 2m09.809s enough to secure Class B pole position. Reade/Reade would lineup second on the grid, ahead of teammates Kinner/Goodliff in third.
MCS Racing’s Nathan Mcphail demonstrated some fantastic pace in Class C, with his lap of 2m15.041s enough to not only secure class pole, but fourth on the overall grid too. Algar Racing’s Roe/Murphy qualified second in class, with Aindale Racing’s Wayne Cockerill third.
Class D saw four different teams top the class timing sheet through the session. Greenstar Racing’s James Burnham was the one to eventually come out on top, ahead of George Wright (Team Air Supply) in second. It was a debut qualifying session to remember for Boreham Motorsport’s Chris Stone, who would start the race third-in-class.
Race
A strong race start by LaMaster/Medeiros ensured the team maintained their lead through the early exchanges. Reade/Reade remained in hot pursuit of the leading Elise, but were coming under pressure from a storming Zakrzewski/Wherton (Dubshack Motorsport).
Mcphail managed to maintain the lead in the opening laps of Class C, while Wright had managed to leapfrog Burnham to seize the Class D lead.
Zakrzewski/Wherton’s charge saw the BMW pairing into second place overall and their sights were firmly set on LaMaster/Medeiros out front. Elsewhere, in Class D, Hills Motorsport’s Lundy brothers of Ethan and Roan were also profiting from a strong race start and had started picking their way through the field.
Spectators at the Norfolk circuit were being treated to entertaining viewing, with plenty of overtaking on display through each class. When the pit window opened, it became clear that teams were looking to operate different strategies to make headway through the field.
After the stops, LaMaster/Medeiros had maintained their lead out front, demonstrating the same pace that had seen them clinch pole position. Zakrzewski/Wherton continued in their pursuit, with the two Wolf Motorsport MINI’s behind in Class B.
When the checkered flag fell, LaMaster/Medeiros had not succumbed to the pressure of the chasing pack and claimed the first victory of the season. Zakrzewski/Wherton would end up 3.788s behind the leaders, but it was a great effort from twelfth on the grid. The Reade brothers claimed the final spot on the Class B podium, finishing one position in class ahead of teammates Kinner/Goodliff.
Mcphail shone in a competitive Class C with a phenomenal performance. The Honda Civic Type R driver claimed the first Trackday Trophy hat-trick of 2025, securing the class victory, pole position and fastest lap. Cameron McLean (CM Racing) navigated the race well and fended off rivals advances to finish second in Class C, while an epic race to the finish line culminated in Cockerill beating Tommy Valentine (Burton Power Racing) to the final spot on the podium by an astounding 0.005s!
The first Class D win of the season was claimed by the Citroen Saxo VTS of George Wright, who enjoyed some battles with higher-classed cars enroute the top step. Andy Burton (Burton Power Racing) is another who enjoyed a good race. The Focus driver gained six places overall from his starting position and was rewarded with second in class. Lundy/Lundy’s charge through the field earned the brothers the final step of the podium.
Congratulations to all!
Focus now swiftly turns to the next round of Trackday Trophy, which will be held on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit on Sunday 6 April.
