Snetterton Race Report

Snetterton Race Report

06 July 2022

Following a month’s break since the last round, Trackday Trophy returned on the 2nd August for its fourth race of 2022. A bright and dry Snetterton played host to some fantastically competitive racing, from an eclectic mix of vehicles.

The action kick-started in the morning’s qualifying session, with EST Performance’s Read duo setting the early pace in their VW Golf GTI. There was strong competition for Class B pole position with a number of challenges vying for front of class honours. Both Stewart Donovan and Jeremy Evans had spells at the top, but ultimately it was the Caterham Supersport of Callum McDougall who ended the session at the top of Class B – courtesy of a 2:13:989 lap time. Unique Racing’s Palk/Pottinger secured Class C pole position in their #98 car, narrowly edging Rawlings/Zakrzewski by less than one tenth of a second! The battle for Class D pole was also hotly contested, with Begbie/Warner finishing the session a mere two tenths quicker than Jack Hargraves in second.

Come the race, Turn 7’s Callum McDougall demonstrated a Snetterton 300 Class B masterclass. Continual quick lap times and solid race management ensured a vintage class victory for the Caterham driver, in his first Trackday Trophy race of 2022. Both Jeremy Evans and Stewart Donovan replicated their strong qualifying pace throughout the duration of the race, earning the pair second and third on the Class B podium respectively. Finishing just 2.116secs behind Donovan in Class B was Ray and Jordan Honeybone – an impressive feat considering the pair started from the very back of the 34-strong grid!

Throughout the pack a great number of on-track battles took place and the competitiveness of the grid was (once again!) abundantly clear. Most notably, the first two over the line in Class C were separated by just 0.341secs! Rawlings/Zakrzewski earned the victory, adding to their already hugely impressive 2022, with Jonathan Pascall missing out on the top step by the narrowest of margins. Wayne Cockerill rounded out the Class C podium, finishing ahead of Damian Chrupczalski and Goodall/Baldwin.

Elsewhere in Class D, Colin Wells took to the top step of the podium for the first time in 2022, finishing in front of second-placed Jack Hargraves and third-placed Andy and Jay Coombs. All of the podium finishers put in some expert maneuvers enroute to their trophies. Class D polesitters Begbie/Warner narrowly missed out on the podium, while Jak Fuller rounded out the top five in class.

Attention now turns to August’s trip to the historic Brands Hatch GP circuit. After the high-quality racing on display at Snetterton, we can’t wait for Trackday Trophy to take to the Kent circuit!
