Club MSV, the trackday organising arm of major UK circuit owner
MotorSport Vision, has launched How Fast, a new event for drivers
to explore the full performance of their cars and compare their
driving skills with others - it's the ideal stepping stone for
anyone looking to dip their toe into competitive motor sport.
Almost any road going car is eligible and the safe purpose-built
environment of Bedford Autodrome combined with a limited
number of cars on circuit for the competitive runs provides the
ideal conditions for rookies.
How Fast events will run to similar regulations as trackday, so
there is no need to invest in a racing wardrobe and whilst
competitors are encouraged to take safety precautions, all that is
required is a crash helmet which can be hired on the day for £10 if
drivers don't have their own.
Events start with a practice session, and advice from qualified
race instructors is available for those who need to hone their
skills. Competitors will then drive the 1.8 mile Bedford Autodrome
West circuit as fast as possible and set a time for the How Fast
league table, which will be published on the How Fast website
www.howfast.co.uk. All timed sessions will run with a maximum of
three cars on circuit at any one time.
As the leader board develops, it will be split into several
classes, opening up the competition to a wide range of cars and
drivers, rather than just those with the highest performance
vehicles. To give the drivers on the first few events something to
aim for, the test times achieved on the circuit by evo magazine
have been published on the How Fast website with their kind
permission
Club MSV, competitors also have the opportunity of progressing
to the Trackday Trophy and a variety of series run by MSVR if they
find they have a taste for the action!
Alex Baker of Club MSV said: "We're really excited about this
new event. Timing is obviously prohibited on trackdays but How Fast
gives everyone a little taste of what motor sport is all about -
competition!
